3A brilliant start gives way to a lucklustre finish
By A. Linton
Very few writers can equal Koontz's ability to set up a scenario that enthrals the reader and sends chills down their spine. However he often falls far short when it comes to delivering a satisfactory conclusion and this book is a case in point. At first was absolutely captivated by the various storylines and found it hard to put the book down, however about 2/3rds of the way in I noticed my interest had started to flag a bit. Koontz adds more and more subplots and characters which inevitably begins to slow down the action and worst of all - especially once he lets us into the viewpoint of the hunters as well as the hunted - I began to guess what the shocking secret must be. The actual ending is a total letdown - Koontz doesn't add anything new to this already well worn theme and the whole thing ends up as a sort of mishmash of 'Dr Strangelove' and 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'. The answers we are interested in finding are completely set aside in favour of a commonplace 'race against time' storyline and by the end of the novel the writing has deteroriated to the point I felt embarrassed for the characters having to take part in it and remembered why I have always found Koontz a letdown as an author. But the first part of the novel is very suspenseful and exciting indeed and for 99p well worth downloading.

1Long Winded and Boring
By Angie
I am almost finished this book thank goodness and don't care how it ends!!!! I was 60% of the way in before anything really happened and even then it's long winded and drawn out. I have lost counts the amount of books I have read over the years but this is by far one of the worst, trouble is I have paid for and have another Koontz book waiting in my list and it will remain there for a very long time ..... unread!I have read Koontz books in the past and the latter ones were not up to scratch so I've left it a few years hoping it would have improved - totally wrong decision, if anything it's worse. This book maps the lives of individuals and how they are all connected, after reading about Ginger I feel I could take a degree in medicine her story was so drawn out!I figured out the ending fairly early on so it's not going to come as any surprise, it just can't come quick enough! I have to finish a book I have started reading but have been at this one for 2 weeks as it never ends! I should have read a couple if not more in that time, that's how difficult a read this one is. Trouble is I read all the 5 star review hence why I bought it, I think I must be reading something completely different to everyone else or at least I wish I had had the enjoyment they so obviously did from it.

2I'm glad this only cost me £0
By Marina Livingstone
I'm glad this only cost me £0.99! It started off promisingly enough with Dom, a writer, who suddenly starts to suffer with sleep walking. Each episode gets worse and Dom realises that things are getting really dangerous when his night time wanderings result in the acquisition of weapons. When he wakes up, he has no recollection of his sleep walking activities, apart from an overriding memory of extreme fear. He is not alone. Across the country, others are experiencing similar life changing events, for no apparent reason. I guessed the event that was at the root of all their woes about half way through the book. The story was OK, but it dragged on across 700 odd pages, which made for a very dull, long and drawn out read. The writing is a bit clunky and torturous, with some unnecessarily obscure words and I got to the point where I really felt like giving up with it, (something I hardly ever do with a book). I skim read the last 20% because I'd just had enough of it by then. Sorry!
