Good performances by all involved but I feel there were gaps missing from Cash's early life with his first wife, his battles with drugs and alcohol, his demons. A little glossed over, could have been better, more indepth.

A pleasant surprise

I was surprised by Walk the Line. I wasn't expecting much (the usual bloated and over-the-top showbiz biopic a la Oliver Stone) but when I read all the 5* reviews on Amazon (and at less on here than it would cost to rent), I decided to give it a go. The film tells a simple story of life and love. It does well to steer clear of sensationalism and portrays Johnny Cash simply as human. Yes he goes through some bad times, and for a while wallows in self-destruction, but it doesn't descend into all out misery. There is always hope.Both central performances are strong and you are left with a real taste of what these people were like. Brilliant, stubborn and vulnerable. Like most other reviewers, I've also since started listening to Johnny Cash's music and find it (as well as the film) warm and inspiring. Highly recommended.
