1Glad I paid nothing for this!

Chris Carter fancies himself as a Forensic Investigator - which he 'ain't. The opening scenes reveal at least 3 detectives blundering around a crime scene, spattered with blood, picking up God knows how many clues on their feet. (They had not changed into white Tyvek suits to prevent cross contamination.) Hunter then decides the "perp" is 6'2" and refers to the killer as "he". From what conclusion does he decide the killer is male? The scene where I decided to stop reading came where the body was shipped to a mortuary where two students were employed part time to strip the body and hose it down for the autopsy by the pathologist. What am I reading? The clothing will possibly carry many more clues in the former of fibres, mud, dirt, leaves, blood etc. etc. and must be bagged and labelled to a high degree for continuation of evidence.Once the clothing has been meticulously removed, a minute examination of the body is carried out by experts. All orifices will be swabbed for facaes, seminal fluid, blood etc and scrapings from under the fingernails. A hair sample is taken for toxology tests. There are many other examinations before the pathologist takes over. But in this story a couple of students are employed to undress the victim and hose his body down, thus removing, potentially, any vital evidence. What a complete load of twaddle.Oh yes, and I was a Police Officer for 30 years!

4Reviewed for A Drop of Romeo

When the remains of a decapitated priest are found on the altar steps of a church in Los Angeles with the head replaced by that of a canine there’s only one duo they’re going to call - the team that managed to catch the horrifying Crucifix Killer. When the forensic team find a bloody number three written on the priest’s chest. Due to the religious elements and the different components of the crime scene, Hunter believes that Garcia and he are on the tail of a ritualistic killer. However, the bodies start to mount up and Hunter has to reevaluate his original hypothesis as this killer isn’t sticking to the same MO. No, he seems to be killing the victims in the way that they fear the most. Their deaths are literally their worst nightmares. But how could the killer possibly know such personal information about each of his victims that for as far as he can see have no possible link? After such an amazing debut in “The Crucifix Killer”, I was more than happy to take the leap of faith with Carter into the second novel following Garcia and Hunter’s investigation. Just as the first one, the crimes committed are shockingly grisly that keep you up late at night hooked to every last word written on the pages in front of you. My favourite part of Carter’s writing is that even though he does use a crime novelists favourite trick of a the red herring, they’re not just carelessly thrown in like some novels. They’re all cleverly thought out and leave you thinking that this whole thing could be over (slightly before you want it too!) but then when the twists are revealed at the end... gobsmacked is literally the only word I can use to describe the feeling I got when I learnt who the killer was in this novel. So settle down, get yourself a nice hot cup of tea and follow Hunter and Garcia as they chase down a killer who literally scares his victims to death...

5A Thrilling Read
By Mrs. D. L. Clifford
What a great read. If you enjoy a good thriller with a bit of gore in it then you will enjoy this book,Someone is killing people in the most grotesque way imaginable Even some of the officers are loosing their lunch once they smell and see the state of the bodies. It's up to Detective Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia to work out if there is a link with these killings and if there is just what is it, Each of the bodies have a number written on them in blood but it's not the dead persons blood so just who does it belong to. They manage to work out just what's going on and find that time is against them to save some of the others, At the end of the book there's a good twist which I didn't see coming
