Fench thrills

I spend a lot of time reading thrillers rather than serious books, so decided to do this in French to justify the time spent. I also wanted to see how easy it is to download foreign books (answer? very!).Ben Malaussène looks after his younger brothers and sisters because his feckless mother cannot cope. he works as a scapegoat for the complaints of the customers of a Paris department store which is subject to a series of bomb attacks. There was a witty and convoluted plot with many cultural references in Latin and English as well as French. it would be difficult for anyone to read without a thorough knowledge of argot as well as the more classical vocabulary. I thoroughly enjoyed it

A refreshingly different book.

Wonderfully colourful language and excellent prose. Great blending of humour and drama in what is the best 'polar' I have ever read. It does however take a while to get used to the richness of his colloquial vocabulary.
