Beautiful, well illustrated book in a compact version

I purchased the larger version of this book as a present for a friend who loved it. When purchasing again I thought it was the same size book but it was a compact version that arrived. I have to say that although we loved the big version, we think this is better as it is just as beautifully illustrated and detailed, but in a format which is easier to handle, carry and store day to day.The actual book is amazing and makes such a lovely and different present.The advert should have the word COMPACT on the sales details though to distnguish it from the larger format book.

Excellent book, but watch the battery life...

Excellent reference book, and fun to use too - I also have the larger version, but bought this compact edition as it's easier to carry when I'm out and about. It would have been good if the song selection could be done by typing in a number directly, but it's not really a problem as you can scroll to the required song quite quickly using the forward/back buttonsHaving used both books for quite some time the only real drawback that I've found is that the batteries can run down over just a few weeks even if the book isn't used. I've got around this problem by popping out one of the batteries to break the circuit - it's easy to pop it back in when I want to use the book; I do this when I've finished with the book for the day, not after each use during the day. Not sure whether this a design flaw or not, but I noticed that one of the three batteries always seems to run down quicker than the others - I check my batteries using this excellent, if a little expensive, battery checker: Ansmann Energy Check LCDThe larger version of this book can be found here: Birdsong: 150 British and Irish birds and their amazing sounds

Fabulous!

Fabulous book and easy to use. I've bought a second copy as a gift for my twitcher friends to share with their young grandson who loves birds. The birdsong is so clear. And the price isexcellent
