A good read

The second of three books about a young archivist inducted into a secret spy ring, Brad Meltzer's fast paced thriller, obviously well researched, is a good read, well worth a few hours of your time. That's it. No intellectual in depth analysis, no fancy-schmancy critiquing, no comparisons with anything else on the market. This is a well written, engaging thriller by a well established,talented writer. If that's the kind of book you enjoy then I suggest you buy this (and the other two which make up this trilogy), find a comfy sofa to settle down on, pour yourself a drink and start reading. I guarantee you won't be disappointed......

A thrilling thriller

'The Fifth Assassin' is the first book by Meltzer I have read and I was very impressed with what I read and will definitely be reading more of his books. The plot is an excellent one, copy cat murderers are killing people in the style the American presidents were assassinated and the next target is the President. The main character Beecher is as always a potential suspect whilst also solving the crimes. Meltzer combines history and fiction brilliantly and it is obvious that it is extremely well researched. The plot is fast moving with plenty of twists and turns throughout the book to keep you guessing right up until the end. Interspersed with the plot is flashbacks to the past to find out what went wrong between Beecher and his friend Marshall which adds another layer of intrigue to the book. For anyone who likes to read a really good thriller then this is the book for you.

Brad Meltzer's The Fifth Assassin fulfills essential elements like suspense, disbelief, intrigues, surprises, tenacity and depth that are essential in any good thriller or mystery story. I finished the book not only satisfied but also being more informed. With the exception of Brad stretching things a little too far in some instances, The Fifth Assassin comes out as a well-rounded story.Overall, I found this book to be well written with a gripping plot, great characterization, an absorbing setting and amazing beautiful dialogue. The fact that it captured my full attention right from the early chapters makes it a work I will like to return to is a work to. Like in Triple Agent, Double Cross, or The Key to Rebecca, The Fifth Assassin is suspense full and fast-paced.
