Entertaining and original.

Since Christopher Moore isn't a very prolific author, I was on the prowl for a similar style of content - a humorous approach to modern fantasy, a mix of normal life and godly or mystical affairs, a book that would cause me to smile - and Martinez's Divine Misfortune has ticked them all. It's a great portrayal of gods living aside humans and their interactions with each other cause a steady stream of events, both small and other less subtle, which as both imaginative and funny. I only chuckles aloud once (and I am hard to please like that), but there were plenty of smiles and the characters, especially the gods, were well crafted, the scenarios easy to imagine.It's a little too long and although my attention didn't wane, I was looking forwards to the closure; I wanted the closure. Before any grandiose conclusion, the book was at it's best where the mundane was skewed by the antic of the gods.Fans of Moore should be more than happy with the writing style and narrative in this book and I shall certainly be seeking out more books from Martinez in the near future.

Divine comedy

This was a hilarious book. In the world of Divine misfortune, you pick a god that suits you or matched the upholstery. You sign on with your God du jour, keep a shine to them and reap the benefits. Not having a God, puts you at a disadvantage as Terri and Phil found out. They went shopping for their god online and signed up for easy going, no blood or human sacrifice, cozy raccoon headed god, aptly named Lucky. What they didn’t expect was him to show up and crash on their couch.The whole premise is ridiculous and so funny at the same time. Divine misfortune is a comedy from a man who has a warped sense of humour and a warped sense of mischief. This book makes you think, is it an allegory for something or just a satirical comedy? I will let you decide.Labelled as “DIVINE MISFORTUNE is a story of gods and mortals - in worship, in love, and at parties” you can not go wrong with this Divine comedy by A Lee Martinez
