Can't wait to read more by this author

Having seen the movie recently I thought I'd like to read the book as well and I'm so glad I did. I've never read Susan Hill before, but will now be adding more of her books to my Kindle with great anticipation.Ms Hill writes beautifully with such a skilled, smooth hand that I was effortlessly drawn into the scenes of the places she describes and into the lives and feelings of the characters she's created.The ending is quite different to that of the film and I really have no idea why it was changed as the author's version is so much better.

A perfect ghost story - wonderfully menacing and scary

Exceptional ghost story and very easy to read, only short so I'd finished the whole thing within two days. Seriously spooky with a building tension that doesn't let you go and plenty of plot twists and turns to keep you from guessing the ending. When the end comes it's seriously shocking and sad and I hadn't second-guessed it, completely surprising. The story itself is beautifully written with wonderfully descriptive prose that makes the darkness at it's heart even more scary. "The Woman in Black" is a dreadful spectre and her vengeance is terrible, she's demonic in both appearance and behaviour, Susan Hill has created a masterful character with the power to make you sleep with the lights on.Haunting at it's absolute best and I enjoyed each and every word.However; I do have a negative, though it's nothing to do with the story, my copy of this book has dreadful print quality to the point when there are almost whole words missing. It's only a short book, more novella than novel, and wasn't exactly cheap. I was totally disappointed by the poor quality. That might only be a slight niggle but; when you're seriously involved in a story it's really annoying when you have to stop and work out what the next word should be, you lose concentration.

Dont read it alone at night!

Book was in mint condition and arrived really quickly. After seeing the film and the show at the theatre I wanted to read the book. Although hard to get into, it's a creepy story and really well written
