Comprehenive attempt to describe the development of the visual arts from the very beginning of human society

A lot of art history books take the all to easy approach that "art" as we understand it in the Western World began variously with classical Greece or Rome, took a dip, before reviving itself in the Renaissance, and then following the accepted tradition to the impressionists, or the post war mid-century modernism.30,000 Years of Art seeks to represent the whole of the human experience, from pre-agrarian right through to the modern day, and significantly, doesn't restrict itself to the "western" tradition.Of course the "usual suspects" are listed, but this offers a broader canvas (to excuse the pun) which places aesthetics on a world stage rather than restricting itself to conventional canon.of course this may not appeal to everyone, especially if you're looking for a "this happened and was followed by this, and this and so on" compatrmentalised approach, but you will (hopefully) you'll emerge with a broader understanding of what "art" is, in all it's various forms are.
