Another excellent book by Dr Fuhrman!
By Janda
I really love Dr Fuhrlman's books as they are full of sensible advice about nutrition. Every book brings a little more information than the last one and even more recipes. Well worth reading.

Well worth reading
By G. Best
I first came across this author in the DVD package, "Raw for 30 days" - about curing Type-2 diabetes with diet. Then he cropped up again associated with Joe Cross and his movie, "Fat, Sick & nearly Dead".What he has to say isn't new (return to a plant-based diet and exercise), but it is well presented and I found a couple of recipes to my liking.

A good introduction to plant based eating
By Tim Parkin
This is one of a number of books I have read recently on the subject of a whole foods plant based style of nutrition. In common with the other key books on this topic, the End of Dieting highlights the health risks of consuming animal products and the benefits to be gained from eating plants. It is a bit lighter in the science than I like but this may suit some people better. If you want a book that delves into the science a bit more without getting too heavy, then How Not to Die by Dr Michael Greger is a good read.Joel Fuhrman places a bit more emphasis on the consumption of nuts and seeds compared to some other writers, due to their demonstrable positive impact on certain illnesses. However, he does acknowledge that they are high in fat and that consumption should be restricted if you are trying to loose weight. He is also a bit more prescriptive about what you should eat, albeit I am sure this is for the benefit of people who just want to be told how to eat to start with, before they gain confidence in plant based eating and start making their own choices.Unlike some other authors, Joel Fuhrman acknowledges that some people may not be able to wholly give up meat, and if this is the case you should almost look on it as a condiment to a large plate of veg, beans, grains, etc. I am an all or nothing kind of person so I felt that I had to go 100% plant based, but if sticking with small amounts of meat, fish and the occasional egg would enable someone to dramatically improve their diet then that is far better than not chaging at all.The information here is a bit more broad brush than some other titles. For example, there is a fairly brief reference to the use of herbs and spices to add flavour to food and reduce salt intake, whereas How Not to Die goes into great detail on specific herbs and spices, the science that establishes their beneficial effects and how to use them.I get slightly turned off by the 'commercialisation' of healthy eating, which is evident in this book, with the use of the phrases nutritarian and G-BOMBS and the fact that Joel Fuhrman markets a range of healthy foods via his website, for people who are 'too busy' to prepare home cooked food.A good intruduction to plant based eating, especially for those who don't want to go too heavily into the science and would like a fairly prescriptive guide to tell them what to do initially.
