Nice volume of dance related images with 4 cds of classical music.

There was a time, in fact quite a few years when the Photographer, David Hamilton was om everyone’s list of famous or admired photographers. Rarely a month went by without his name and images adorning some photographic magazine or arty periodical. His images, generally taken in the South of France of nubile girls naked or scantily dressed were all the vogue. Rumour had it that parents would volunteer their children for David Hamilton to photograph, even though some of those girls were less than 14 years old.The images were pastel, moody and dare I say erotic. They were about innocence so Hamilton stated but deep down though the images were beautiful they seemed so very wrong. Well into the seventies through the eighties not an eye flicked or criticism was raised and Hamilton produced several books, on similar themes together with three movies again of nubile young ladies and the odd actress including I recall Charlotte Rampling and Patti D’Arbanville. The books sold well and his posters were seen in the art shops of these decades. Then came political correctness and within a short space of time Hamilton’s images taken, so he said with a 50mm lens smeared with Vaseline on a Minolta camera was no longer in fashion.Hamilton undertook a different direction in his photography and produced moody pastel images of Venice and then La Danse. A collection of images, mostly seen before, again of young ladies in dance costumes or semi-naked or naked in pastel moody themes. This time with 4 cds of classical music.I did have all the David Hamilton books from the 70’s and 80’s but sold them when I realised it was not good for my children to see such images. I bought this book, La Danse, and on the whole I like it. I wish the naked images and semi-naked poses were not here but the book and the photos are well produced though I can’t really see the reason for the classic music cds. Nonetheless there is beauty in some of the images.David Hamilton took his own life recently so this may be the last we see of his images unless there is some demand for reprints. Maybe this volume is a fitting tribute to the photographer.

Great Ballet Photography

Great photography from world famous photographer David Hamilton whose photography of young girls is well known.Please note there are two versions of La Danse. The 2005 Edition and the original 1970's Edition. The 1970's Edition is more collectible, but it doesn't have the great bonus photography that the other version has. The 2005 Edition comes with CDs as well as photos from Bilitis which have many beautiful nude photos in it. La Danse has ballet photos in it.I also highly recommend Age Of Innocence by David Hamilton, and Sisters by David Hamilton, as well as The Definitive Guide To Girls In Coming Of Age Movies 2013 which also lists similar superb photography books.

A beautiful study of the dancers (esp. Nureyev) done in the soft focus style of Hamilton. The addition of four ballet music CDs and you have a marvellous package to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
