I loved this book. If you are battling with British summer weather here is your fix of sunshine, well during the Greek summer time, during Jennifer's winter time on Tilos you might feel cosiest cocooned in your British central heating. Jennifer's understanding of nature, weather, light, humanity is descriptive writing at its best. What on the face of it is just one ex-patriot's experience of life on a tiny remote Greek island colourful characters certainly add to the narrative and one in particular adding an extraordinary twist to the 'plot'.

As a lover of Greece I was really looking forward to reading this book. It started weakly but did manage to battle my way through in the hope it got better, sadly it limped along in much the same vein. This book reads like a blog, "I did this, he said that,I walked there, I wore this, I ate that, I went for (yet another) swim and dried off on the beach (again)!" Some nice descriptions but it is so awfully repetitive and not written with engaging narrative. I applaud Miss Barclay for escaping the 9-5 and admit to wishing I could do the same, but I wish I had saved my five pounds and spent it, and the reading time, elsewhere.
