More excellence

Michael Connelly has done it again with Mickey Haller. I only read it because I was ready to read Harry Bosch book 14, which is Mickey Haller book 2. Knowing how Connelly develops his characters with each book, I wanted to read Mickey Haller book 1 first, so I could get the most from the next book. I'm so glad I did. Gripping until the end, plenty of twists and personal touches. Loved it.

I have read about half of this book, and then given up on it. I cannot stand the lawyer, Mickey Heller -he is a bumptious know-all, so very smart, and all too ready to tell us so.I have had the same problem with another Connelly creation - Bosch. Big-head, cock of the walk.The book is well enough written, so you may well like it.

Mickey Haller, Criminal Defence Lawyer. In the job just for the money or to really seek justice?

I would rate it 3 1/2* for the first 3/4 of the book and 4* for the last quarter where it started to tense up. First book I've read in the Mickey Haller series and the first based on a story from the lawyer's point of view.First half of the book I wasn't as hooked as the last quarter, I didn't want to give up reading it, but I wondered when it was going to get really interesting!I will give book 2 a read.
